Acupuncture
This is performed by a veterinary surgeon using fine sterile needles to stimulate specific points in the body. Acting primarily through the central nervous system, it acts on the musculoskeletal, cardiovascular and hormonal systems.
One of its main indications is for the relief of pain and muscular spasm, such as associated with joint problems or soft tissue and ligament problems. It can cause the release of endorphins which are the body’s natural painkillers. Some animals show a brief sensitivity on insertion of the needle, but the majority then relax. Treatment may be required
1-2 times a week for up to 6 weeks depending on the condition and treatment time can last up to 40 minutes.
