Low Level Laser
Low level laser and LED can stimulate the cells in the body that repair tissue, reduce inflammation and transmit pain (eg in areas of muscle spasm).  Certain wavelengths can stimulate or inhibit cell function depending on settings used and the specific anatomical points at which it is applied.

It works primarily by its effect on cytochrome c oxidase and the subsequent unbinding of nitric oxide and release of ATP which improves cellular function.  Studies have shown a marked anti-inflammatory effect demonstrated by a measurable reduction in PGE2, TNF alpha and IL6 in the synovia around damaged tendons.  Axonal flow can also be affected in nerve supply, creating an analgesic effect particularly in cases of painful muscle or soft tissue and around areas of joint inflammation.

High intensity single trigger point lasers can also be used on acupuncture points instead of needles.

Cluster probes have an advantage over ultrasound as it can be applied without the need for shaving hair.

It is non-invasive, gentle and well tolerated.

Treatment duration is relatively short and depending on the condition being treated, can be applied as part of another modality or as a treatment program in itself (i.e 1-2 times a week for 4-6 weeks).
